Frequently asked questions

Where is my data stored?

Entirely on your device, in a local SQLite database. RetireQuest has no server for your plan data — nothing you enter is uploaded, and on mobile the app makes no network calls at all. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I back up my plan?

Because the data is local, it is backed up whenever your device is:

  • iOS: included in your iCloud or encrypted local device backup.
  • Android:included in Google’s device backup where enabled.
  • Desktop: included in your normal machine backup (Time Machine, File History, etc.).

You can also export a PDF report of any forecast from within the app to keep a human-readable snapshot.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Uninstalling the app deletes its local database. There is no copy on any server, so the data cannot be recovered by us afterwards — restore it from a device backup taken while the app was installed, or re-enter your inputs.

Why is there no login or account?

By design. RetireQuest doesn’t need to know who you are: there are no accounts, no sync service, and no data collection. On mobile, your App Store or Google Play purchase is the license, so there is nothing to sign in to — the app just works, and your plan stays private on your device.

How does desktop license activation work?

Desktop copies (macOS and Windows) are unlocked with a license key you receive when you purchase. Enter the key on the activation screen; the app contacts the RetireQuest licensing API over HTTPS with the key and an opaque device fingerprint, solely to enforce your seat count. If you replace a machine and run out of seats, email support and we’ll release the old activation. Mobile apps never show a license screen — the store purchase covers them.

Is RetireQuest financial advice?

No. RetireQuest provides retirement projections for educational purposes only. Consult a qualified financial advisor before making retirement decisions. See the terms of use.
